friend now in spirit
there on the mountain
standing in glory shimmers
Lord loves what Kathryn writ
now singing at wellspring fountain
so,
now with viewings
there's gone days of wonder
in body, grit, stains and stairs fall
omnia extares as Father'd been of wooings
no matter hows, whats gone sunder
gone is daze, tears of celt oot of gaul
oh,
Lordy! - - now seeing downunder
uprootings of soul joiner connexions
woes of this, for glory of what's of Him
oh, from oot of counting storm's thunder
tilling grounds done, for deep reflections
while Lord does wash her every limb
through
waves of wake's greetings
we call, hearing her heart song
sensing, dancing, one-footed leaps
of glee, shining grace, oh heavenly meetings
for now she's where she surely is to belong
tho we still go tilling, she's well suited for keeps
so,
go, flow, dance on Kathryn dear
singing, awaken your beauty from sleep
In-joy to castle keep, many halls
opening, unveiling His vision clear
so go, dance freely now, body sweep
translucent golden streets, oh amore's calls

I
had the privilege of knowing Kathryn Lindskoog since the summer
of 1974 when she attended, with her dear friend Marilyn Peppin
(who became my spiritual director), the first-ever summer C. S.
Lewis workshop at St. Andrew's Abbey, Valyermo, on The Pilgrim's
Regress. She volunteered to co-direct the 1975 workshop, also
on The Pilgrim's Regress, thus beginning the work that would produced
her fine book, Finding the Landlord. She kindly sent me an autographed
copy when it was published in 1995.
Kay
was one of the charter members of the Southern California C. S.
Lewis Society and it was she who christened our publication, The
Lamp-post. She generously asked her artist friend Tim Kirk to
design the Lion, Lamppost, and Lamb cover art for The Lamp-post.
I
have Kay to thank for being asked to write Companion to Narnia.
In 1978 Roy Carlisle, then an editor at HarperSanFrancisco, approached
me, then a doctoral student at Fuller Seminary, to write a guide
for older readers of the Chronicles of Narnia. I told he ought
to ask Kay, who knew so much more. He did, but she told him that
I was the one to do it. Strengthened by her confidence in me,
I said yes and "the rest is history"ÑCompanion to Narnia has been
continuously in print since 1980, with my acknowledgment of Kathryn
Lindskoog's scholarship and friendship.
I
was deeply saddened when we could not agree on her evaluation
of Walter Hooper's work as trustee and interpreter of the Lewis
literary corpus.
I
never speak of Lewis that I don't acknowledge her C. S. Lewis:
Mere Christian.
I
send my prayers and condolences to her husband and sons and to
all who will miss her.

"Another
for Kathryn"
Andrew
Comin staid yet a week -- slowly, gently fading out into life
-- darkening into eternal day -- forgetting into knowledge itself.
Donal was by his side when he went, but little was done or said;
he crept into the open air in his sleep, to wake from the dreams
of life and the dreams of death and the dreams of sleep all at
once, and see them mingling together behind him like a broken
wave -- blending into one vanishing dream of a troubled, yet,
oh, how precious night past and gone !

I
shall always be grateful to God for an extraordinary, and unique
friendship with Kathryn. Two weeks prior to her death -- I was
at her bedside, and it was such a sacred time we shared. In her
weakness she was bold, in her struggle she was calm and in her
mind, she remained brilliant.
It
was a pleasure to feed her, to give her water, to push her glasses
up on her nose so she could see better. I was blessed by her words
of wisdom and love.
Of
course there were times of smiles and laughter. We even had a
few moments to look at photo albums. My favorite was when Kathryn
was about 3 years old, standing beside her house -- surrounded
by tall purple/blue irises. Till the end, one of her favorite
flowers.
Her
words of encouragement and love were more precious than silver
or gold and as I held the hand that had written me so many personal
letters of love -- I knew God had just allowed me to embrace the
most dynamic, lovely, brilliant and gracious Queen, prior to her
exit to heaven.
In
my mind I can still hear her voice -- and in my heart I feel her
love.
As
I flew home from my lifechanging visit with Kathryn, tears flowed
like a stream, realizing my blessing.
We
shall forever be changed, because of her Loving Touches!
